you should not use telnet, but rather ssh instead.  ssh is encrypted so
people cant sniff your passwords off the network.

If you still must run telnet, but want to run it on a different port, you
can edit /etc/services, and change the port number to whatever you want it
to listen on, then restart inetd.

If you are trying to hide the telnet port, this wont work, because someone
that does a scan of your box will simply see it running on a different
port.
