[cobalt-security] Passwords and encryption

Hello,

so i am just starting out on this admin road and i need some help with
passwords and encryption.

1. only th first 8 or so characters of a password is rewuired to log on
currently; how do i change that and where?

2. if i have some sensitive material like credit card numbers and
personal information should that be encrypted? How do i do that or where
do i look to procure a clue?

any help would be greatly appreciated.
