Where do people log their "*.emerg" messages in syslog.conf
if there is not a second computer to log them, since the default
is "*" or none? Is is good place make a file like this?:
*.emerg /var/log/emergency
and have them logged there? Also, where are all daemons other than
mail, uucp, and kernel log facilities being logged?; can we just add
them to the messages and seperate daemon file as this? :
*.info; mail,ftp,daemon,authpriv.none /var/log/messages
daemon.info /var/log/daemon
Lastly, has anyone changed all the log files permissions'
to root and belonging to the wheel group as follows? :
chown root.wheel /var/log/*
chmod 600 /var/log/*
TIA,
