I hope that didn't come off as snotty, it wasn't meant to be. My path to
geekdom is making me unbearable...

Well, when you think of it, we all started with zero skills. And it's not
just overwhelming, it's bloody scary at times. I got rooted last year and I
didn't know what to do. Luckily I had a generous LUGger to help me out. But
that was on an old Red Hat machine; upgrading and securing boxes is much
easier now. With the RaQ, you just need to keep your packages up to date and
keep an eye on something like BUGTRAQ just in case. With Red Hat, you do the
same with up2date (I'm doing it right now as it happens.) And while you're
doing that, you can be learning how to do it _properly_. Of course, we have
to rely on Sun keeping up to date on their packages too, but hopefully
they'll keep with the program.

I can't really comment on that to be honest. I don't really go for manuals
and support that way. It's all out there on the net. The only barrier is time.
