You can hack a firewall box just like any other. However, most firewalls are
so hardened that they would be very difficult to compromise, and with many
appliance-type firewalls the OS is so simplistic and proprietary that
hacking it would do little good (other than being able to play with the
rules). Also, firewalls tend to be monitored heavily by admins, and as such
it would be difficult to maintain a firewall compromise.
