Re: [cobalt-security] Maybe offtopic MySql pkg

Hi Norbert,

> Has anybody of you tested the mysql pkg at pkg.nl.cobalt.com?

I'm going to piss you off straightaway: no, I haven't.
Round the time I got my RaQ, the MySQL-pkg was around 3.22.something, which
was last February. 3.23.xx was declared stable for some time then, I
believe.

My advice to you: go the extra mile and get the rpm's from mysql.com. You'll
have to create a directory like /home/mysql and link /var/lib/mysql to it,
but that's about it. You can then always run the latest and greatest from
MySQL.

Think about it: what happens when an exploit is issued for MySQL? Who is
faster with an update, MySQL AB or Sun/Cobalt? Sun/Cobalt by definition
can't be as fast as MySQL AB (duh! ;-P) and MySQL has always been fast with
updates, AFAIK, and release an rpm (almost) immediately.

Since this *is* a security list, above you'll find my security related
questions.

Couldn't tell. I think not, from what I've read.

Good luck... Nico
