Not sure I can explain "why" in any way that'd satisfy you.  As an old
(57yo <grin>) unix guy from way back I've always felt the best security
was to not have anything on the box that's not required in my
installation.  I just carry this philosophy over.

While my systems are close enough to get to if I need to (my personal
RaQ3 is only an arm's length away, my colocated ones about an hour
away), I've never had ssh go down, and don't know why it'd be more
likely to go down than would telnet.
