[cobalt-security] RE: cobalt-security digest, Vol 1 #1138 - 8 msgs

Michael,

Can your Unofficial "RaQ4-All-Security-2.0.1-15959.pkg" be loaded on RaqXTR
to update the PostgreSQL. We have your:
RaQXTR-mod_php 4.3.0 / mod_php installed

Thanks
Dean

Hi Dan,

> Forgive my ignorance... What's an SRPM file?

Some popular Linux distributions use RPM files to install applications. RPM
stands for "RedHat Package Manager" and the Sun Cobalt RaQs use the RPM
mechanism, too.

RPMs are available in two forms: RPMs and SRPMs.

The SRPM contains the sourcecode and patches and a so called "spec" file
which
contains instructions on how to compile and how to install the files. An
SRPM
doesn't contain any ready to run code. The prepended "S" stands for
"Source".

RPMs are built from such SRPMs. The SRPM contends are compiled to match the
architecture of the given system. The resulting RPM files can then be
installed on any server which has the same architecture and the same
software. So any RPM built on a RaQ4 can be installed on any other RaQ4
provided they don't differ that much in regards to Sun Cobalt patches or
third party modifications.

I created the unofficial Sendmail patches by downloading the SRPM files
which
Sun Cobalt used to create the Sendmail RPMs. Most of 'em are available on
ftp.cobalt.com and all needed to do was to inmplement the two patches which
the Sendmail Consortium released to counter the recent vulnerabilities.

However, for the RaQ2 there is no recent enough Sendmail SRPM available, so
I
couldn't build a patched RPM for the RaQ2.

With best regards,

Michael Stauber

This turned out to be nothing to do with the Solarspeed patch - thanks =
to Michael for proving that.

Running pine cleared the problem - weird!

Hi

My first post after lurking for some time. Thanks for all your great =
help everyone.

Of course, this may not be related, but after installing the latest
Solarspeed sendmail patch (no problems) and then rebooting, running mail
with no arguments cause a segmentation violation. With arguments (e.g. =
-f
mailfile) it's fine.

Anyone else experienced this?

When the patch is loading/ installing on my raq4 I see this message:

"Problem installing package component: php-4.0.6-C5_RaQ4.i386.rpm"

After this I can't add any user or virtual-site or change the admin
password and site user passwords.

Messages like: "Cannot convert from vanilla unix to shadow password" and
"Cannot convert from vanilla group to shadow group" showing ;-((.

I have already run pwck as root (return message: pwck: cannot lock file
/etc/passwd).

I have etc/locks cleaned that only monitor stay in there.

But after every change files like user-1837 and group-4322 where created
in there.

I can't uninstall the patch, no uninstaller was created.

Another problem after the fault patch/ update: logscheck is stopped.

And php is downgraded to 4.0.6 ;-(

If I use the pkgmasters pkg to update it this messages comes up:

"Problem installing package component: curl-7.9.4-1.i386.rpm"

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks all.

(Sorry for my broken English).

Bob

Nathan,

Have a look at:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/tn18340.htm

You need to make sure that you are running the correct version of Apache. I
would recommend
subscribing to the CF Linux conference at http://www.houseoffusion.com and
reading through the
archives which deals with this topic in detail.

(Must admit, I am amazed that you are running CFMX on a RaQ4! Is this just
as a dev box or is this
as a deployed server (and if so, what sort of load are you putting on it?) -
I did try running the
installer for CFMX on a RaQ3 and it produced all sorts of errors so never
went any further with it.
Did you do anything special to install it or did it just go straight onto a
base RaQ4?)

HTH
