That's the XTR package, right? Hmm ... ok, I'll check it out.

You can start and stop SSH from the command line:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd start
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd stop

Michael (anyone),

Installed OpenSSH-3.5p1-1 from www.solarspeed.net and the Start and Stop
in the GUI is gone. Is there another way to start and stop SSH with out the
Gui or is there a way to make it show up again!

Cheers
Dean

Got response

ssh in:
su -
<root password>
/etc/init.d/ssh(d?) stop

It is /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd stop
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd stop

What if you cannot SSH in? This is really my question!

Thanks
Dean

Momentarily turn telnet on.
telnet in;
do the su - and start sshd
Also run
chkconfig sshd on
To be sure sshd will start on reboot.
Then get out and turn telnet off

  Obviously a M$ solution.
rebooting should always be a 'last resort solution'
What happens to people using your server when you reboot?
Your webserver is 'gone' for a period!!!

Ehh..

So Jacob, your saying if we ran IIS, and rebooted the machine, magicly
people would still be able to see webpages on that machine, while its
rebooting, cause its more stable..
LOL..

furthermore.. SSH being off makes it unstable?
Funny, that must me Windoze is unstable 100% of the time!

No, but think what you want.

Yea, it's not the Os it is the 3rd party programs that make *nix unstable
(or so I have heard)

Define "third party" in regards to *nix ... when all distributors just
cobble
their stuff together from various open source reprositories. ;o)
