named shouldn't use much in the way of processes at all.  We've got a
RaQ used as a nameserver in St. Louis running dns for thousands of
domains; it's picking up resolution for the midwest and the east coast
and probably all of Europe as well, and it runs around 0.1, 0.2.

So you're probably in the midst of some kind of denial of service
attack, as Eric alludes.
