[cobalt-security] use raq3 as back up? how secure?

I recently purchased a used RaQ3 and have restored it with the factory
os. I would like to use this server to back up my RaQ550 on a daily
basis. Is that possible and how do I go about this? Also, how secure of
a back up solution is this after I install all of the available security
patches?
