Be sure your DNS server(s) are correctly resolving for your RaQ.

It is not very likely that the kernel update is causing your problem here.
I'm fairly sure you are having some DNS issues somewhere.  Telnet into the
machine and try to do simple DNS lookups.  (ie  $ nslookup www.yahoo.com)
It will probably take a long time to come back and most likely just
fail.  Look at you /etc/resolv.conf file and be sure that the DNS servers
listed in there are valid.
