All Sun Cobalt products come with a 1 year hardware warranty when you
buy them. That's it. No support contract at all. And the warranty can
be extended _at the time of purchase only_ for an additional 1 or 2
years, for a total of 1-3 years for the hardware warranty on a
particular product.
When we were Cobalt Networks, we had a policy of 30-days unlimited free
support, which was supposed to help you get your product up and
running... turns out a lot of people were using it for a lot more than
that...
Sun's call center overhead is too high for a low-cost product like the
Sun Cobalt appliances, so all "free" support is being migrated to the
web, and only people who need real help and can/will pay for it ($95 per
incident) get phone support.
