That's exactly what I DO do...
If I have a lot of broadranging changes to make (ie for a renumber, or
bulk ip change, or even just a dns restore onto a fresh box) then I do
exactly that,
Drop in /etc/named/records, modify the bits I need to
Rm pri.*
Then click save in DNS parameters, within 1 second every single dns
record is recreated.... And I have about 500 domains served of some
boxes...
Its one of the main reasons I DO use the cobalt for dns...
Maybe you just had a bad experience with it..
