maybe craped ... some has mentioned that the RaQ4 is running good as
long as he stays up,
and fail if it goes down in fact that it cools down and that might
dislike the hardware ... maybe
... but I guess ... crap ... the 90 $ for a new harddisk isn't worth to
play games like "maybe not dead"

do a

#> cat /var/log/kernel|grep hda

this will show you the kernel boot up information and tells you which
drive is found as drive 1 (hda)

be sure to get a disk which consumes low power. Maybe look for a 5400
UPM drive, look out the specs.
Someone in the list mentioned to use Seagate drives which seem to
consume less power than the
default one installed.

The Main Problem ist the temperature and the powerconsumption in fact of
the small power unit
and the very small air condition system build into the RaQ
example drives:
Maxtor 34098H4: seek=10,6W; idle=5,5W
Seagate ST340823A: seek=9,6W; idle=4,8W
IBM DTLA-305040: seek=8,6 W; idle=4,9W
