Re: [cobalt-security] Pop Before SMTP and qpopper

I was hoping that someone could help me with this one. I have updated my Raq4 with all the patches availible. However now I have a problem with Pop Before SMPT. It seems that it when I enable it via my web interface it will work only until someone logs in to check their email (qpopper) then it no longer works but the box remains checked. I can enable it again by unchecking, saving, then checking the box again but when someone checks email (qpopper) it stops again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Chris,

It sounds as if it *is* working. Log into your sendmail machine and execute /usr/local/sbin/poprelayd -p. This will list all the clients allowed to smtp and the present count up to your relay window=x where count=x * 60seconds. This is your relay window. If your LAN is behind a firewall or say you have multiple clients behind a DSL router, the other clients behind that firewall or router will be able to smtp without POP login because they appear to be the same client. This is because poprelayd tracks clients as IP only.

I just went through this analysis recently, because I was thinking the same way.

I hope this helps?!

Cheers
