we use Duplidisk which is the only hardware IDE RAID1 i know of
it writes the bytes to two drives simultaneously
if one drive fails the other carries on regardless, but a buzzer sounds
warning you that a drive is down and a light shows whether its primary or
secondary
you can then replace the dead drive with any other IDE (they don't even have
to be the same spec!)
and remaster either on the fly or in another pc with a DOS boot diskette

they cost about $250 plus the second drive, but I reckon they the next best
thing to StaQware ;)
