I know it's not strictly security related, but I used to have RedHat 7.1
installed on my desktop box at work and I found the version of GCC they'd
shipped as part of it to be rather broken in several ways, in that it
would error and quit when trying to compile certain applications. I was
told by someone more informed about GCC than I that the version shipped in
7.1 was 'notorious'.

Anywa, it's worth bearing in mind that if you do install 7.1 and want to
do a reasonable amount of compilation you might need to replace GCC.

I'd also echo Kevin's concerns about upgrading a RAQ. While it's
obviously sometimes a pain not to have the latest version of some of the
packages, Cobalt/Sun's distro does have 'tried n tested' in its favour.

Cheers,

John
